What is EMDR?
EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for individuals presenting with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
What do we offer in our service to help with this?
As trained EMDR therapists we help individuals reprocess their traumatic memories by using a process that involves repeated left-right (bilateral) stimulation of the brain while noticing different aspects of the traumatic memory. This means receiving stimuli in a rhythmic left-right pattern. The stimuli can be something you hear, see or feel.
For example, bilateral stimulation could involve:
- moving your eyes from side to side
- tapping movements on different sides of your body
- tones you hear through one ear then the other wearing headphones
Issues that EMDR can help with
Single, non-complex trauma such as
- natural disaster
- surgical trauma
- road traffic accidents
- workplace accidents
